Sunday Reflection Quote…A little more than a month ago I fell down another rabbit hole. After digging myself out, I’m grateful Perspective hit me between the eyes. Despite being wired as a seeker, I have so much to be thankful for and I have faith my time will come. I’m feeling more content than I have in a long time. What a relief!

Sunday Reflection Quote…Memories old and new, thought provoking conversations, stretch experiences, and personal challenges have rounded out the last two weeks of summer break. As I’ve listened and observed, the beauty in others has been revealed. Thus, a realization has been confirmed…Rather than seeking acceptance and approval, I just need to be me, as I am and wish to seem. We all have our nuances and idiosyncrasies. For that, I am thankful.

Sunday reflection quote…This past week I feel like things are really falling into place. I’m not talking about materialistic nor monetary; rather, of my mind, heart, and spirit.
I’ve been intentionally working on my mindset and how I’m approaching my life as it relates to opportunities, experiences, or relationships.
In essence, this has resulted in two things:
1) Letting go. I hold on so incredibly tight to expectations, assumptions, and performance that I wind up in quasi paralysis for fear of failure or disappointing others. The ability to let go of all that mental shit is liberating; the release of an unbearable weight.
2) Being open. My mind and heart has been somewhat closed and hardened due to insecurities coupled with previous hurts. However, being open to accept positives, attention, and new experiences, even if short lived, is a gift.
I am choosing to take away what makes me smile, laugh, warms my heart, and lingers on the palate of my mind. This is my mindset; my story.

The circle of life rolled by while I sat near the entrance waiting for our takeout order. Miniature white sneakers with velcro straps randomly bobbed to and fro. A blue sweatshirt hosted Tigger bouncing on the side. The slightly stressed mother quickly returned wallet to purse, balanced a bulky diaper bag on her petite shoulder, and pushed the stroller all at the same time. The cute toddler was in his own world living it up—smile on his face and song upon his lips.
Right after, a similar image with added wrinkles. Crisp, white New Balance sneakers boasting velcro straps contained stationary feet and swollen ankles. A blue knitted sweater with an embroidered crest and half glasses perched atop the end of a seasoned nose momentarily captured the essence of the elderly man. While pushing the wheelchair from behind, the twenty-something grandson leaned down to say thanks for the meal. A partial smile and wink was extended from a craned neck as the elderly man labored to tuck his wallet into his back pocket.Read More »
In poker, each player has a table image. Some based on how one plays such as tight-aggressive or loose-passive, while others are established by personality or physical appearance. Perhaps the perfect formula is a combination of all three. As a relative newbie to the game and a female at that, I’m constantly in the mode of analyzing my competition. At the same time, I’m becoming more and more aware of my own actions and appearance. This reflection has evolved into a guiding force for decisions made at the table and how I react to random distractions or intentional antics.
Take for example, a night I played 3/6 limit at the Grand Sierra. An elderly man joined the table at about 12:30am and occupied seat three. In a gentlemanly way, he gave a nod to the players at the table along with a “good evening.” With the nod, we observers couldn’t help but notice the stark white cap with brown bubble lettering perched atop his head that read, “If there’s TITS or TIRES, There’ll be Problems.” Now, that’s quite the bold hat to wear at the table! The oddity was the image of the hat contrasting with the conservative looking man – western style button up shirt, tightly groomed wax-tipped curled mustache, and quiet demeanor. There were a few quick comments– “Takes some balls to wear a hat like that!” and “Where did you find such a hat?” The man’s response, “What’s the big deal? It’s just a hat.” Indeed. Read More »
